The ultimate fangame Co-op experience. Meet with various characters from famous game licences across 4 stages and fight tons of epic bosses. I Wanna be the Boshy has grown to be a phenomenon almost as big as the original game it was based on. For good reason, too, as Boshy makes evident of Solgryn's gift in game design. The game is far from perfect, but as a fangame its unwise to expect as much. Boshy was the first fangame I played. To no surprise I died.
Welcome to your gaming hell. This is an I wanna be the guy hack made by myself; Miracle and my helpful partner; Spikey. This has been in the making for over a year now and is still in progress. There is a recent beta (2.0) available for download today.
I Wanna Be the Boshy is a 2D, Side-scroll and Platform video game available to play on Microsoft Windows. The game takes place in the stunning world explored by side-scroll perspective. In the game, the player takes on the role of the tiny character, who must run, jump, and attack to progress through the game.
Extremely well-made fangame. Lots of variety, with plenty of gimmicks, some mini-games and a couple traps mixed in, divided between multiple stages that look and feel pretty different from each other. The game feels extremely fluid, with no huge roadblocks on the platforming or at the bosses, so there's probably no point in the game where the player will feel discouraged to continue playing. The mini-games are pretty creative (Specially the golf stage) and fun to play. The gimmicks range between creative and relatively common, but every single of them is used really well. The traps are pretty funny and there aren't too many of them (The only trap stage is the first one). Some of them are also quite unexpected. The bosses are equally as creative, with some really cool attacks and concepts. There are also plenty of cool small details, like the warning sign that appears when you try to overwrite a save, the visual effects that happen whenever you use a gimmick in the last stage, pretty much the whole Pokemon stage, the stage transitions and other stuff. The visuals and the music choices are great, and there are some nice sound effects to make the game livelier. There's also a little 'story' behind it. It's pretty light-hearted and fits pretty well in the game, justifying a lot of stuff that happens in it. It's actually pretty original too, and probably something that only an IWBTG fangame could pull off. I'm overjoyed. I'm kinda reluctant to give a 10 to a fangame, but I believe this game deserves it. It has pretty much everything I could possibly want in a fangame: Variety, creativity, immersion, balance, great design, great visuals, great music choices, great gameplay and overall I simply can't find anything wrong with it. Highly recommended.
I was a huge fan of the game, I Wanna Be the Guy, so when I heard that there was a fan game based on that game, but with popular streamer, Boshytime, I was all over it.
Free!!!!
Let me start right away by telling you the good news, I Wanna Be the Boshy is a free game. You do not have to spend a penny to play this and that right away makes this well worth playing at least once.
So Much Fan Service!
You know how the movie Ready Player One features a ton of fan service and you always wonder what kind of reference it was going to throw your way next? Well, you can amplify that to about a level 100 with I Wanna Be the Boshy. Each level has its own theme and is based around some old school video game. Now you, of course, have your staples like Mario, Sonic and so on, but I love ho obscure this game gets. From a boss fight with a giant and evil Hello Kitty to my personal favorite, The Cheetah Men! How on earth does someone thing to put the Cheetah Men in a game like this? Well, I am glad they did and I Wanna Be the Boshy is full of fun Easter eggs like this that will make you smile…… before making you cry.
Do You Have The Skills?
There is a reason that I Wanna Be the Boshy is so popular with streamers. It is super tough! This is a platform game where you have to move at 100 miles per hour. This is a platforming game that pretty much gives you no time to think. It is all about your reactions and how quick you can react to what is happening. You have to have one eye on what is right in front of you and the other eye on what is coming next. It really is tense stuff and there is a lot of trial and error here. What I think shows how good this game is, is the way that it can be very frustrating, but the game is so much fun you think that if you have just one more try, you will get past that section which has seen you die 2 thousand times. I would say that the gameplay feels like a cross between Super Meat Boy and Super Ghouls & Ghosts so that right there tells you what a tough time you are in for.
I had such a great time with I Wanna Be the Boshy and let me tell you that you do not have to know anything about Boshytime to have fun with this game. The constant barrage of video game references never gets old and you are genuinely always wondering what the heck is coming next. From Street Fighter, Hello Kitty, Super Mario, Castlevania and many more. Plus the platforming action is awesome! If you think you are a master platformer, you need to play this game to really put your skills to the test.
